Errol Control Tower
This was an exciting contract to convert a derelict World War 2 into an eco-friendly, modern home. We retained many of the original features, including the original watch office windows and reinstated the observation balcony using stunning stainless steel and glass construction.
Over seventy years ago, the farm at Errol Airfield was subject to a compulsory purchase order under the Defence of the Realm Act. It was commissioned as RAF Errol No 9 Pilot Advanced Flying Unit (PAFU) and remained in Operation until 1945.
“Our family took the opportunity to buy back Muirhouses including various airfield buildings in the early 60’s. Since then a number of relatives, mostly no longer with us, had romanticised about refurbishing the Control Tower and in 2013 we decided to bring this to reality.
The reinforced concrete building was in poor condition due to weather and a number of attacks from planned ammunition training. We were delighted AGB had a Quantity Surveyor on their staff who assessed the damage and kept us aware of all preparation work to be done. The AGB staff were very professional, sending spreadsheets of progress and updated timelines, keeping us abreast of costs and putting us in control.
The enormity of the task was rather daunting but Allan and the team broke everything down for us, arranging for us to visit suppliers and merchants, enabling us to be fully informed before we purchased and to choose specific specifications for different rooms.
The support before, during and after completion of our house has been excellent and we would not hesitate to recommend AGB to others.”
